The Broken Shaker - Miami

Whoever thought Miami is still all about marble floors, high heels and tacky tourists is (mainly) wrong. Sustainable hotels, edgy neighborhoods and a decent dose of hipster-venues have blown over from New York and LA and are giving a new vibe to the Magic City. One of those is the hip Freehand ho(s)tel. And especially the much-discussed cocktail bar that resides in its enchanting courtyard. We hung out at The Broken Shakerand are still wild about it.

In 2012 set up as a pop-up bar and nowadays an integral part Miami’s bar scene. And that just might have to do with the fact that things are slightly different at The Broken Shaker. Think along: a large courtyard garden surrounded by a handsome Art Deco building (the Freehand Hostel Miami - or poshtel  as we seem to call upscale hostels today) brimming with vintage furniture, colorful wooden beach chairs and a pool lined with sun beds. During the day the place where hotel guests soak up the Florida sun, in the evening the place where the cool kids meet. Expect inventive cocktails with seasonal plants and herbs from their own vegetable garden, a good selection of sides (the Falafel Sliders are highly recommendable) and Pale Ales of Floridian descent. Punch of the day at USD 7 per glass), cocktails starting at USD 12. And if Miami is not on your travel schedule anytime soon: worry not - The Broken Shaker also has outposts in Chicago, LA and New York. Although we still think punch tastes better at 28 degrees and palm trees.
