Sweden-based Nobis Hotels brings Scandinavian cool to the sun-splashed capital city of Palma de Mallorca. A first look inside this brand new buzzed-about arrival.

Ever wondered what it would be like to spend the night in a 16th century former soap factory? Look no further: Concepcio by Nobis is where you want to bed down. This brand new hotel just came out of a four year (!) head to toe renovation and brings 31 gorgeous guest rooms, a lively lobby and an in-house restaurant with cocktail bar to the Santa Catalina district of Palma de Mallorca.

the design

As with the other Nobis hotels their Palma outpost is also housed in a historic building, where lots of its original features are still beautifully exposed. For the renovation works Nobis teamed-up with Stockholm-based firm Wingårdhs. They have effortlessly combined Scandinavian design with local authenticity - paying a tribute to the historic building in which the hotel is set. Think design-forward but warm, social and intimate. The first thing to catch the eye when stepping into the hotel are the watercolour-style green and white ceramic floor tiles. All bespoke and handmade by Mallorcan brand Huguet. Interiors reflect the hallmark of Nobis with clean, colorful and swanky designs - making every corner of the hotel a lust for the eye.

the rooms

The 31 guest rooms come in seven categories that range from cosy doubles to Junior Suites and a Terazza Room that (as the name gives away) comes with a private patio. All rooms come with those gorgeous Huguet tiles and are dressed with contemporary furniture, such as black Carl Hansen Cuba armchairs and Zanat coffee tables. Facilities include kingsize beds by Gemla, a minibar and a private bathroom with amenities from Byredo. Opt for the Junior Suite and you’ll get a sleek stand alone bathtub in your room.

Restaurant & Bar

In-house restaurant Xalest and the adjacent cocktailbar and lobby/lounge form the hotel’s beating heart. It’s a place where both locals and tourist come to dine, drink and socialize. Xalest is helmed by Chef Xema Alvarez and opens for lunch and dinner. Expect a Spanish-inspired menu, with tasty tapas and pintxos and many of other dishes made to share. Walk-ins are accepted but it’s recommended to book in advance. Drop by for crafted cocktails in the evening and you’ll get to drink them at the outdoor patio with views on the pool and the dry-stone walls surrounding it.
