Soho House Amsterdam - rooftop

The paint has only just dried, yet Soho House is already the talk of the town in Amsterdam. After cities such as London, New York and Istanbul, it is now Amsterdam to get its very own members-only club. 79 vintage guest rooms, a rooftop pool with cocktail bar and exclusive members-only facilities wrapped in an Art Deco building in the heart of Amsterdam. Soho House Amsterdam is open.

Introducing the members-only hotel club. A concept that might ring a bell outside our country borders, but is pretty rare in the Netherlands. Up to now. Because with the arrival of Soho House Amsterdam, the world’s most exclusive members-only hotel club now also resides in our capital city. Let’s first tackle that concept. Soho House founder Nick Jonas came up with the idea in 1995 to set up a house that would serve as a place where for creatives and free spirits could meet. Creative, like-minded people could join et voila : the first club in London was a fact. Two decades and 22 beautiful houses (often with rooftop pool, small cinema, restaurant and gym) later, Amsterdam is the first house within the Netherlands. Even though it’s still to be seen whether a members-only club works in a down-to-earth culture like the Dutch, but it will definitely not have anything to do with the club itself; Soho House Amsterdam might just be the best looking hotel in the city.

Soho House Amsterdam is located in the monumental ‘Bungehuis’ on Spuistraat in Amsterdam’s city center. Bungehuis was once a trading office, later a university and now transformed into a hotel. Many of the monumental and Art Deco details have been preserved and are used as the basis for the interior. You’ll find high granite walls, stained glass windows and the original mosaic floors throughout each of its six floors. The 79 rooms are located on the first three floors. All breathing Soho House’ signature haute vintage look and decorated with Dutch accents; we spotted glazed tiles in Delft blue and art of Dutch origin on the walls. Rooms range from intimate ‘Tiny’s’ to ‘Big Monumentals’ complete with seating area and free-standing copper bathtubs.

The members-only facilities are spread out over the three top floors and include a screening room, a house gym, a restaurant and a magnificent rooftop terrace with a swimming pool, cocktail bar, lounge and BBQ station. Good to know: the usage of mobile phone’s is not allowed on the floors with members-only facilities, which contributes to a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere.
The Cowshed Spa and Cecconi’s restaurant (known for their famous lobster spaghetti and Sunday brunches) are located on the ground floor and are both open to the public.

Rooms starting at EUR 160 per night.
