Casa Mia: a bohemian villa in Trancoso, Brazil

Casa Mia Trancoso.JPG

Trancoso might be one of Brazil’s best kept secrets, but for us this tropical beach resort is our ultimate discovery. Tucked away in the tropical state of Bahia, this charming town boasts cozy restaurants, art galleries, rustic pousadas surrounded by dense rainforest and unspoiled beaches. Trancoso’s latest hit is the dreamy concept villa Casa Mia. Speaking of new discoveries.

Within walking distance of Trancoso's charming quadrado square and nestled between tropical rainforest and the turquoise Atlantic Ocean, a brand new villa takes the stage. Brain child of a well-traveled Italian, who teamed-up with Brazilian designer Marie Stella - who changed her home base Sao Paulo for Trancoso many years ago. The goal? Combining the elegance of the Mediterranean with Brazilian simplicity and the tropical life of Bahia - all packed into a house that feels like a home to everyone. The result? A five-bedroom bohemian villa, centered around a tropical garden perfectly blending in with the surrounding rainforest.

the amenities

The villa is a 10/10 in simplicity, but at the same time functional, luxurious and with privacy and great attention to detail. For example, the eight meters high open plan kitchen is equipped with wooden folding doors that open up to the garden. Practical, since we are in the tropics - but it also ensures that the kitchen literally flows into the veranda, the outdoor hall ways with hammocks, the tropical garden and the infinity pool at the end. Furthermore, Casa Mia has all the essentials that you would expect from a modern day villa. A well-equipped kitchen with bar, a spacious seating area, two verandas, WiFi, a bluetooth sound system and its master piece: an 18 (!) meters long infinity swimming pool. And if we may recommend: Hotel Costes’ playlist on Spotify works very well in this setting.

Local design

The interior comes straight from Trancoso-based designer Marie Stella (who owns a beautiful home decoration store called Divino's on the quadrado - do yourself a favor and visit). Expect a minimalistic design in which hard materials such as polished concrete and scrap wood are well combined with beige cushions, rattan furniture, pottery and tropical foliage. If Mother Nature had a holiday home, this is it. The carefully curated decoration in the villa comes from all over Brazil. For example, the pretty Tucum hammocks are from the Northern state of Pará and the pottery was made in Bahia.

the bedrooms

Its five suites are located on either side of the garden. All come with oak wood sliding doors, bohemian interiors and spacious en-suite bathrooms with rain showers. Large glass doors provide natural light and, when opened up, connect to a small private outdoor terrace at the back. Four suites comprise a king-size bed, the fifth comes with twin beds. In addition, the two suites down at the pool have their own terrace.
